About the summer school

Volgograd branch of the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA) is organizing the summer school project for young people from different countries interested in regulation of migration processes, in particular of migrants` adaptation within the host country.

The summer school treats a relevant and actual topic of Adaptation of migrants within the host country as in recent years territorial mobility of population has become one of the main developmental trends. New cultural norms and values introduction into the host society often leads to conflicts. Cultural, psychological and language difficulties faced by migrants in the adaptation process to a foreign environment increase social tension, weaken social and economic stability in the society.

Our highly-qualified and experienced teachers and scientists engaged in research of legal, political, linguistic and psychological aspects of migration are actual members of expert committees of governing bodies (including Directorates of the Russian Federal Migration Service), they have accumulated research and practical experience in solving problems related to migration in different countries.

The summer school will offer its participants a wide range of academic lectures, workshops, round-tables, Russian language and culture courses as well as excursions and national festivals. You will also learn practical skills in work with migrants in Volgograd temporary refugee camps aimed at their effective adaptation.

Enrollment

We invite undergraduate, master and postgraduate students engaged in research of migration processes, having practical experience of work with migrants and those who interested in Russian language, history, culture, politics and economy.

  • Language requirements: English (Intermediate).
  • Age requirements: 18-30 years old
  • Number of students: 20

ECTS points — you can get 2 ECTS points.

Participation fee

1050 Euro (It includes classes, accommodation, meal (breakfast, lunch, coffee break), cultural activities, bus transfers, visa support. The participants will live at the academy`s guest house in the center of Volgograd and in magnificent tourist camps.

Our goals:

  1. Study current migration problems on the basis of Germany and Russia`s experience (analysis of mass media content, reports of services which regulate migration processes) / work in groups, data search and analysis, presentations;
  2. Consider legal aspects of migration policy in Russia and Germany / work in groups, use of content analysis in the study of laws regulating migration processes in Russia and Germany;
  3. Identify psychological characteristics of migrants’ adaptation and to master relevant adaptation technologies when working with migrants / work in groups: psychological trainings aimed at migrants’ adaptation;
  4. Learn practical techniques of migrants` adaptation and integration into the host society aimed at successful re-socialization in the new social community / group project work — organization of social activities in the summer campus promoting migrants` adaptation in Russia and Germany (Friendship Day, National Cuisine Day, National Dance Day, National Music Day, etc;
  5. Investigate social aspects of migrants` adaptation in Russia and Germany (accommodation, employment, interaction with the local population / work in groups: business game “Work with migrants in social services”;
  6. Examine language difficulties and ways to overcome them in the adaptation processes in Russia and Germany / work in groups: training on intercultural communication;
  7. Analyze organizational and managerial aspects of Russian and German Migration Services / work in groups — organizational design of migration services aimed at their effectiveness increase;
  8. Give practical consultations to migrants in Volgograd temporary refugee camps aimed at their effective adaptation by summer school participants;
  9. Develop applied adaptation models for Russia and Germany, recommend their introduction by governing bodies / final work "international festival of ideas."
